Introduction

As the saying goes, ‘Reading makes people smarter’. And that is true, but there is a huge difference between being smarter and becoming an expert.

There are many reasons why people choose to read books instead of learning from watching videos and studying notes on websites. It is often said that reading books make us smarter because we absorb more knowledge from them than we do from lectures or discussions online. As an added benefit, it also helps in getting rid of distractions, thus improving concentration levels and boosting productivity.

Some of the best selling books today are The Intelligent Investor (which has been translated into nearly twenty-five languages), How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, These are all classics which have been translated into over 100 languages!

If you want to study hard but don’t have time for it (like me or a lot of other students), here is a list of some of the best-selling self-help books:

1) Eat This Book – Change Your Food Habits For Good

2) The Magic of Thinking Big -How to Become a Hero To Yourself

3) The Power Of Thinking Small -How To Reduce Stress High And Low

4) 10% Happier -What Not to Do Before You Do Something Awesome!

5) TED Talks – How to Make Ideas Into Ideas That Stick! (Video Series) (Recommended for 1 hour 25 mins out of 5 hours weekly budget).

6) Tao Te Ching – A book that changed my life.

Significance of Books

The first book I bought in college was a paperback by Napoleon Hill, “Think and Grow Rich”. It has been a major influence for me and I have always considered myself lucky to have acquired it. Since about last 2 years , I have been reading other books by famous authors and it dawned on me that the man who had started reading books on the very first day of school was my father. He was a very smart man and one of his hobbies was to read popular books. In fact, he quit his job to become a full-time book reader.

It is hard to imagine how a person like him could make it all those years without such wonderful companions as books, but he did and thus I can only take my father’s example as an inspiration for me and continue to read.

Books are great companions – not only during study time or sleep time – but you can also enjoy them while travelling or even taking short breaks in the office or during your lunch break. They can play an important role in your life, helping you live better than you would be able to do if not for them. Reading is one way of consuming power that is often overlooked by many students nowadays (students think they should work hard at studies), but who knows? Maybe someday they will learn that if you read something, then you will be able to do something more than just study.

 Importance of books

  • If a student is not reading books, he could never learn.
  • If a student is not reading books, he will never be happy.
  • If a student is not reading books, he might end up in jail, or get depressed and quit school
  • If a student is not reading books, there will be no peace and happiness in his life.
  • If a student is not reading books, he might get into troubles with his friends or family members

Conclusion

Books can be said to be the best friends of students. There are many books in a student’s life, and every book is important. A better understanding of a book is what makes it a good friend. If you have only one book in your life, it is impossible to learn something from it. Read books images and improve your skills.

In this post I would like to talk about the importance of books in student life and some of the ways through which books contribute to student’s learning.

I have heard plenty of people saying that they don’t need to read long novels because they have read them already or that they don’t need to read English literature because they are fluent in it already. While I would agree that reading short stories or fiction is equally good for learning, I would argue that it doesn’t do much for your overall knowledge base (and can even hinder it). The reason being that there are lots of sources out there for all subjects, both fiction and non-fiction, so if you are only reading fiction (or if you don’t have time) you might not learn much from all the source material.
